Abstract

The purpose of this article was to: (1) study the architectural attributes and elements of a Formula One race track, and; (2) study its relationship of architectural elements with urban space utilization. It was a documentary research, which analyzing twenty three F1 online videos, ten F1 interview articles, and twenty websites about F1 racetrack and its architecture. Then, researcher analyzed the data through table analysis and comparative analysis of two F1 street circuits, which are Monaco Grand Prix and Singapore Grand Prix. It was found that F1 circuit includes four main attributes, which are: (1) racetrack; (2) pit building (pit lane and pit garage); (3) grand stand; and (4) support building (race administration, media center, hospitality lounge, medical center, broadcast areas, fan zone, and pedestrian bridges). Thus, these four architectural attributes related to four urban aspects, including: infrastructure system, commercial area, residential area, and public space. It was reflected through these two case studies that F1 street circuits had spatial relationships both in terms of the use of existing buildings and in broadcasting the beauty of the urban landscape to the public.
