A Study of Misconceptions in Mathematics on Polynomial of Grade 2 Students

Abstract

The research aims to study mathematically distorted notions. On olynomials of secondary school students 2nd grade, the target group for research is secondary school students 2nd grade, SomdetPrachanukroh School, Somdet District, Kalasin Province, obtained by selecting a specific method. Tools used in the research include mathematically distorted notions, student interviews, etc. Analyze data by frequency, percentage, and content-based analysis.

The results showed that 1) students had misconceptions in mathematics. divided into 4 aspects, it was found that the students had the most incorrect concepts about multiplication and division of polynomials, accounting for 65 percent, followed by the incorrect concepts about polynomial addition and subtraction, accounting for 55 percent. misconceptions about definitions, rules, theories accounted for 40 percent, and misconceptions about understanding the problem accounted for 30 percent, respectively, and 2) the cause of the misconception was largely due to the students' incomprehension of algebraic methods of polynomials. and students are unable to interpret the meaning of the given problem
