THE DEVELOPMENT OF ABILITY IN SOLVING MATHEMATICAL PROBLEMS FOR MATHEMATICS PROGRAM STUDENTS: A CASE STUDY OF LEARNING AREA IN NUMBER AND OPERATION

Abstract

This research aimed to compare the ability in solving mathematical problems after learning through activity that encourage skill in mathematical problems solving by employing Polya’s methods with the criteria, and to investigate teamwork skill in learning through activity that encourage skill in mathematical problems solving byemploying Polya’s methods. The sample group is 28 Mathematics Program students, Education Faculty, Kamphaeng Phet Rajabhat The instruments were; mathematical problems solving ability test, and teamwork skills test. Statistics for data analysis were; One Sample test, Mean, Standard Deviation.
The findings shown that; The ability in solving mathematical problems of students after learning through activity to encourage skill in mathematical problems solving by employing Polya’s methods was higher than the criteria, with statistically significant differences at .05 levels and Students, who participated in learning through activity to encourage skill in mathematical problems solving by employing Polya’s methods, obtained the teamwork skill in overall was at high.
