TRAINING CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT ON KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT FOR TEACHER OF ENGLISH ON THE COMPETENCE OF CONSTRUCTING YOUTH-GUIDE CURRICULUM IN LOCAL TOURIST AREA

Abstract

The purposes of this study were to 1) study essential competence of teachers of English in constructing youth-guide curriculum in local tourist area ; 2) construct and evaluate the quality of training curriculum ; 3) use the training curriculum and study the competence of constructing youth-guide curriculum in local tourist area by ; 4) study participants’ opinions towards training curriculum. Four steps of the Research and Development process were used with 15 Prathomsuksa teachers of English from the Office of Basic Education Commission Sukhothai Area 2 who participated in training during the first semester in academic
year 2012. A knowledge and understanding test and evaluation forms on skills , attitude and opinions were constructed for the training curriculum on knowledge management for teachers of English on the competence constructing youth-guide curriculum in local tourist area. The results were as follows: Essential competence for teachers of English in constructing youth-guide
curriculum in local tourist area were five aspects of knowledge : 1) constructing curriculum, 2) local tourist attractions, 3) language for tourism, 4) guides’ characters , 5) research procedures. Five aspects of skills and operating were : 1) constructing curriculum elements, 2) evaluation, 3) lesson design, 4) application, 5) presentation. Five aspects of competence on attitude were : 1) learning attention , 2) pride of locality, 3) love of locality, 4) determination and responsibility, 5) need for constructing curriculum.
Elements of the training curriculum were 1) problems and necessity, 2) vision, 3) principles, 4) goals, 5) objectives, 6) training units , 7) structures of relationship on competence, content, and training procedure, 8) training activities, 9) media and learning resources, 10) evaluation on training. The quality of training was appropriate at high level. The results of using training curriculum revealed that : the competence of teachers of English on knowledge after training was higher than before at the .05 level of significance. Mean scores were also higher than level 3 (good), The competence of teachers of English on skills and operating was higher than level 3 (good), The competence of teachers of English on attitude after training was higher than before at the .01 level of significance. Mean scores were higher than level 3 (good), The attitude of teachers of English who participated in training towards the training curriculum was at the very good level in every items. The results of evaluating teachers' opinions on English language teacher training courses at a very good level for every item.
