People’s Participation in Taking Care of the Bed Bound Elder Groups, Health Care Division, Nakhon Ratchasima Municipality

Abstract

The Nakhon Ratchasima Municipality needs to establish the people participation in taking care for the bed-bound elders, which increasingly becomes social and economic problems in the community. This study aims to find the factors required to attract the volunteer in this program, and also to develop their basic knowledge in treatments of the bed-bound elder groups; therefore they can do by themselves in the long run. The analysis, based on causal relationship, found three major factors: 1) the people-participation and change leadership, 2) knowledge management, and 3) the provision of medical services. If the last factor is used, the result will reasonably affect both the effectiveness of people’s satisfaction to volunteer and efficiency of knowledge development. If the first factor is used, it will contribute greatly to the efficiency of knowledge development; but will not affect the effectiveness of satisfaction to volunteer. Likewise, the second factors will only affect the efficiency of knowledge development at some moderate level. This led to the suggestion that, in the early stages of policy, the change leadership should be formed together with the creation of people participation. After that the basic medical services for the bed-bound elders should be provided to the community. Then the policy of knowledge management should be implemented for the people to exchange their learning and experience within the community and transfer these back to the Municipality to be further developed.
