The Participation in Community Solid Waste Management for Sustainable Tourism at Song Klong Floating Market, Taling Chan Temple, Taling Chan District, Bangkok

Abstract

The purposes of this research were to study the participation in community solid waste management, and study problems and
challenges in community solid waste management for sustainable tourism at Song Klong Floating Market, Taling Chan Temple, Taling Chan District, Bangkok. The sample of this research was 370 local residents at Song Klong Floating Market, Taling Chan Temple community. Questionnaire was employed to collect the data and analysed by percentage, mean, and standard deviation.
According to the study, the majority of the population is female (55.90 percent). Most of the respondents (36.50 percent) ware in the age ranged between 46-60 years old. Most of them were self-employed (56.20 percent). In terms of the education levels, most of them obtained the high school certificate or vocational certificate (25.90 percent). The findings revealed that the participation in recycling was low, the participation in waste collection was moderate, and the participation in solid waste disposal was low. In summary, the overall participation in municipal solid waste management was low. The recommendation of this research is, firstly, the district office or related agencies should employ municipal solid waste management by waste sorting system. Secondly, there should be the announcement of participation in order to draw more local residents to meetings. Thirdly, more waste containers should be provided. Lastly, the community should
