A Study of Patriotism Discourse in the Young Pioneers’ Activities Textbooks under the Leadership of President Xi Jinping

This research article aimed to collect and analyze the patriotism discourse in the Young Pioneers’ Activities textbooks under the leadership of President Xi Jinping. The results show that Young Pioneers’ Activities textbook reflects the government’s attempt to create the patriotism through the content including the 4 main patriotism discourses which were 1) resilience discourse in socialism that teaches the youth to be under the rules of socialism and follow the social norms, 2) obedience and following discourse of the Communist party that sets the value of obeying the head of Communist’s instructions and expects their people to participate in developing the government policies and plans, 3) following the Important person discourse is to shape people to follow the values of important person in Communist’s history, and 4) praising discourse of Chinese spiritual which makes people love, cherish Chinese tradition, and make them express the identity of Chinese people under Socialism. However, the purpose of the Government towards creating of the above-mentioned discourses was to restore the people’s trust in the Communist party. Due to the increasing number of the applicants in the Communist party, the government had to compile the discourses as a tool for instilling patriotism which would cause the youth of the nation to praise and have faith in the Chinese’s Socialism characteristics, obey the nation’s leader, and follow the paths of the Communist party.
