Buddha Tantra

Abstract

This article aims to study and analyze the origin and development, key characteristics, and goals, including the trends of Tantra Doctrine in Thailand. The study shows that Tantric Buddhism had been originated from the social pressure at the time, especially the Hindu beliefs admired for praying, superstition, and mystery rather than getting in the dharma principle. Therefore, a group of monks had tried to lead followers by using the Hindu way which is bringing the practice of Tantra to be disseminated until it became one doctrine of Buddhism. It is found that the key characteristics of Tantra are mystery, encomium, magic spell or black magic, and sacrifice. The goals of Tantric Buddhism according to the study has been founded that they are the usurpation of followers, the way to strengthen mentality, the spiritual anchor for Buddhists and the truth achievement. At present the belief of Tantra Doctrine has played a greater role and been received a positive response exceedingly in Thai society since people do not aim to deeply study Buddhism principles, and most of monks do not guide people in the right direction. Therefore, there are a lot of supporting ideas for Tantric Buddhism.
