The Announcers’ Competencies on Radio and Television

Abstract

The qualitative research on The Announcers’ Competencies on Radio and Television aimed to study announcers’ competencies. The sample of the research consisted of nine experts who were academicians and experts in radio broadcasting, television broadcasting, and mass communication. The results are as follows : the innouncer’s performance in the media, radio and television is an individual ability in operating through the media, radio and television as an announcer. Those must have knowledge and skills appropriate to the tasks and duties which have been assigned. This includes : 1. Knowledge which means data content, concepts or principles that have been gathered through perception, thought and practice. It can be summarized and applied to the development of a higher level which contains three issues, i.e. 1) basic knowledge of communication, including the communication process, the transfer of substance and content presentation, 2) knowledge of law related to the content and presentation, and 3) knowledge of communications and technologies including technology in information retrieval system and technology literacy; and 2. Skills referring to the ability to act or practice which may be either physical, intellectual or social skills training or arising out of acts frequently, including two issues, i.e. 1) reading skills including pronunciation of vowels, consonants, tones of correct Thai pronunciation, diphthongs, and the name of the royal family correctly, and 2) Skills appeared in the media, including personality, costumes, makeup, and the use of nonverbal language in accordance with the verbal language.
