Aesthetics and Symbols in Contemporary Porcelain Arts for the creation of the ‘Spirit of Rivalry’ artwork series

This study aimed to investigate the aesthetics and symbols in contemporary porcelain arts for the creation of the ‘Spirit of Rivalry’ artwork series and examined the development of Contemporary Porcelain Arts of the ‘Spirit of Rivalry’ artwork series. The research objectives were: (1) to analyze the works of six contemporary porcelain artists with ‘Spirit of Rivalry’ using semiotics and aesthetics theory, and to explore techniques and characteristics of the artwork series.. (2) To examine the inferring and expressing approaches in the connotation and symbolic significance of ‘Spirit of Rivalry’ in contemporary society through porcelain artworks. (3) To create a series of modern ceramic artworks under the ‘Spirit of Rivalry’ and explore the inspiration in aspects of social impact and personal life. This study employed a document analysis, field study, and creative research in research methodology. The research results revealed that the creative characteristics of contemporary porcelain artworks representing the artist were as follows: a) shape design, b) material design, c) decorative design, and the universal concept of ceramic creation, which were all significant for the development of contemporary ceramic art. As a result, contemporary porcelain art for the creation of the ‘Spirit of Rivalry’ artwork series have conformed to the characteristics of modern porcelain have created under the theme of “‘Spirit of Rivalry’ to reflect the human fighting spirit and the positive attitude towards life in order to promotes the development of contemporary porcelain arts.
