Dragon: The Appearance and Belief of Products on Shopee and Lazada Selling Pages

Abstract

This research article aimed to investigate the appearance and the beliefs of dragons on the Shopee and Lazada product pages. This study was qualitative research, which analyzes information on available products and dragon legends from Shopee and Lazada pages, in a total of twenty-five items. The results were as follows: (1) The appearance of the dragons in the online products is similar to the appearance of dragons according to the Chinese mythical story. The majority of the dragon appearances are dragons with a golden body, scales, horns, antennae, a tail, four legs, five claws or four nails, holding a crystal ball with the front legs, and (2) The products with a dragon image and a message expressing beliefs has consisted of nine beliefs as were: a) auspiciousness, b) luck, c) wealth, d) prestige and power, e). prosperity, f) promote businesses, g) Feng Shui enhancement, h) fix bad years, enhance luck, i) success and j) good health. In addition, the production of dragon-shaped products has a connection between beliefs about dragons in Chin and the creation of dragon arts. The message in the advertisement reflected the beliefs, which considered as auspicious things. Since it was believed that anyone who purchased the product, they would have good fortune, a happy life, and prosperity. Therefore, the product would have a combination of artistic creation and belief in an artistic way to respond to the demand of the consumers who have faith in dragon to buy the product.
