Development of a Supplementary Reading Book on Colors in Thai Culture For Chinese Students

Abstract

The aim of this research is to create a supplementary reading book titled Colors in Thai Culture for Chinese students in order to reach the Effectiveness Index Criteria of 80/80 as well as to develop the reading skills and understanding among Chinese students. The researcher divided the supplementary reading book into eight chapters: 1) Colors and Food; 2) Colors and Costumes (Part I); 3) Colors and Costumes (Part II); 4) Colors and Royal Institutions (Part I); 5) Colors and Royal Institutions (Part II), 6) Colors in Thai Tradition; 7) Colors and Idioms; and 8) Color Terms. The targeted groups were third-year Chinese undergraduate students majoring in Thai Language. The findings showed that a supplementary reading book for Chinese students with a performance value of 87.6/86.3 was higher than the designated criteria of 80/80. It had an Effectiveness Index of 0.81. This means that the supplementary reading book for Chinese students had efficiency as the students developed and improved themselves from reading it. As a result, they had better understanding of Thai language and Thai culture in terms of colors.
