The Development of the Teaching English in 21st Century for Pre-service teachers by using Coaching and Mentoring: SAIFON Guidelines

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to enhance English language teaching ability in the 21st century for pre-service teachers toward SAIFON guidelines. The population consists of 40 Rajabhat Universities pre-service teachers and the sample group consists of 25 students of the fifth-year pre-service teachers in Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat university who studied in the second semester of 2020's academic year who attended in the seminar that gained the data from Need analysis, Furthermore, two pre-service teachers of Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat university who were teaching in the schools were observed by using Area sampling. The tools used in the research are 1) Need analysis, 2) In-depth interview, 3) Evaluation form, and 4) Field note. It is a Mixed Method research which includes Qualitative Research, In-depth interview, and Field note, that analyzed by using content analysis and coding technique for grounded theory. The quantitative research which included Need analysis and Evaluation form that analyzed by using Mean and Standard Deviation.The results revealed that: Pre-service teachers of Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat university enhanced Teaching English ability in 21st century toward SAIFON guidelines that consisted of 6 aspects: 1) S = Survey the teachers needs , 2) A= Associating with a plan, 3) I = Instructing teaching strategies, 4) F = Feedback on teaching demonstration , 5) O = Observing teaching in the real context, and 6) N = Notifying problems and solutions. Furthermore, it included the coach personality and the mentor personality.
