The Construction of a Textbook to Develop Thai Spelling Skills for Foreign Students Learning Thai as a Second Language

Abstract

The purposes of this study were 1) create and find out the efficiency of a spelling textbook for foreign students who study Thai as a second language. 2) To compare the spelling achievement of foreign students who study Thai as a second language. The population used in this study was foreign students studying in the Thai language and culture program, International Student Education Management Center (ISEM), Chiang Rai Rajabhat University, first year, first semester, academic year 2025. The number of 18 people was selected by purposive sampling. The tools used were spelling textbooks, achievement tests before and after studying for foreign students who studied Thai as a second language. The statistics used were mean and standard deviation and t-value.

          The results of the study found that the efficiency of the spelling textbook for foreign students learning Thai as a second language, which was tested with a large experimental group, was equal to 85.66/86.39, indicating that the spelling textbook had higher efficiency than the specified 80/80 criterion. Comparison of academic achievement before and after learning using a spelling textbook of foreign students. It was found that before learning, the average score was 12.44 and after learning, the average score was 17.89, with the post-learning score being significantly higher than before learning at the .05 level.
