There are having a mental refuge to create a feeling of safety, peace of mind and remembering the Buddha's virtues. Think of the principles teachings of Buddhism to practice in daily life based on intelligence or rationality with the creating of peaceful mind. An intellect solving life problems have developed the mind and wisdom able to cultivate Vipassana, which is the way to quench defilements or liberation through the practice of dharma in good things that refrain from doing all evil.
