Develop the Reading for Main Ide Using Active Learning Exercises to Enhance Reading for Main Idea Skills among Matthayomsuksa 1 Students at Anuban Chiang Khong School

The purposes of this study were 1) to evaluate the effectiveness of active learning exercises in enhancing the reading for main idea skills of Matthayomsuksa 1 students at Anuban Chiang Khong School based on the 80/80 criterion, and 2) to compare the students’ learning achievement before and after utilizing these exercises. The sample consisted of 30 Matthayomsuksa 1/1 students at Anuban Chiang Khong School, selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used for data collection included lesson plans, active learning exercises, a pre-and-post achievement test, and a student satisfaction questionnaire. Data were analysed using percentage, mean, standard deviation, and dependent t-test. The result indicated that the effectiveness of the active learning exercises for enhancing reading for main idea skills was 82.25/83.89, exceeding the 80/80 criterion. The students’ post-test scores were significantly higher than their pre-test scores at the 0.05 level. The students expressed the highest satisfaction with the learning activities, followed by the assessment methods and instructional media. Their satisfaction with the content was also rated very high.
