Public Participation in Natural Resource and Environment Conservation of Kui Buri Subdistrict Municipality in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province

Abstract

The purposes of this research were 1) to study the level of factors affecting public participation and the level of public participation in natural resource and environment conservation of Kui Buri Subdistrict Municipality in Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, Thailand, 2) to compare the public participation in natural resource and environment conservation on basis of personal factors, and 3) to study the relation between factors and public participation in natural resource and environment conservation. The samples included 383 residents in Kui Buri Subdistrict Municipality in Prachuap Khiri Khan. Data were collected using the 5-point rating scale questionnaires and checklist, and were statistically analyzed with percentage, mean, standard deviation, T-distribution, F-distribution, and multiple regression analysis. The findings revealed that: 1) the factors affecting public participation in natural resource and environment conservation were generally found at the high level, and the public participation in natural resource and environment conservation was generally found at the high level. 2) Those who had different occupations participated differently in natural resource and environment conservation at a significance level as hypothesized. Different gender, age, income, education, and marital status resulted in different levels of participation in natural resource and environment conservation provided by Kui Buri Subdistrict Municipality in Prachuap Khiri Khan, without statistical significance, which was not as hypothesized. Finally, 3) authority, opportunity, and motivation were related to the public participation in natural resource and environment conservation at a significance level.
