Elderly: Mental Health Problems and Guidelines for Mental Development

Abstract

Nowadays, Thailand is entering an aging society. According to a survey conducted by the National Statistical Office, the elderly have increased from 6.8 percent in 1994 to 16.7 percent. In 2017, there was an increasing trend of Thai elderly living alone or with spouses only. Considering the dependency, it is found that the 100 working-age population will have to bear the burden of 51 elderly and childhood population and is expected to increase to 64 people in 2027. Without a good management plan, it may cause Causing economic, social, labor, and health problems, especially among the elderly who are physically aging Causing many health problems Also have increased mental health problems Both inferior knowledge, depressive values, burdens, hurt feelings and social problems Such as neglect Adapting to the environment, etc. Therefore, the ways to solve the mental health problems of the elderly, there are many options from the perspective of academics and from the Buddhist principles. .All can be used to alleviate sparse mental health problems in the elderly.
