Abstract

This article analyzes the political philosophy of Socrates, emphasizing the concepts of truth-seeking and justice as fundamental to building a peaceful and sustainable society. Socrates believed that justice can be achieved when individuals possess knowledge and live virtuously, with knowledge serving as a vital tool for distinguishing right from wrong. Thus, truth-seeking becomes both a learning process and a key objective in personal and societal development. The article highlights the Socratic Method, a process of questioning and dialogue designed to stimulate critical thinking. This method consists of two main stages: irony, which encourages interlocutors to express their understanding, and maieutics, which helps uncover new truths through self-reflection. Additionally, the paper examines Socrates’ critique of the democratic system in ancient Athens, which often lacked informed and rational decision-making. His philosophy suggests that effective governance requires leaders with virtue and wisdom, ensuring justice within society. The study also discusses the trial and execution of Socrates, resulting from the conflict between his pursuit of truth and the political interests of his time. Furthermore, the article underscores the contemporary relevance of Socratic thought, including its application in education, leadership development, and promoting critical thinking within society. Lastly, the paper concludes by reflecting on the enduring contributions of Socratic philosophy to fostering justice, freedom of thought, and stability - principles that remain pivotal for creating an equitable society in the modern era.
