Developing a series of activities to enhance listening and speaking English skills For Grade 6 students at Sarasas Thonburi School

Abstract

This research is to develop a series of activities to enhance listening and speaking English skills. For grade 6 students, the objectives are 1) To develop a series of activities to enhance listening and speaking English skills. 2) Evaluate the quality of a series of activities to enhance listening and speaking English skills. and 3) To study the students' satisfaction with the activities to enhance listening and speaking English skills. The sample group in this research was grade 6 students. The sample group in this research was grade 6 students in the first semester of the academic year 2022, Sarasas Thonburi School, 1 classroom. The researcher determined the sample by a simple random sampling method. The sample consisted of 34 students in grade 6/2 and 1 English teacher who taught the said classroom. The research instruments were 1) the listening and speaking English skills reinforcement activity series assessment form. 2) Assessment form for students' satisfaction towards activities to enhance listening and speaking English skills. 3) Behavioral observation form for learners who participated in activities to enhance listening and speaking English skills. The results of the research were as follows: 1) The researcher developed 4 sets of activities to enhance English Communication Skills, consisting of School Days, Going Shopping, Explore the World, and About Me. 2) The results of the assessment of the appropriateness assessment of the listening and speaking English skills enhancement activities Three experts found that the entire series of activities was the most appropriate. (mean = 4.15, standard deviation = 0.76) accounted for 86.4%, which was following the hypothesis of 85%. 3) Comparison of pre-school and post-study achievement with a set of activities to enhance listening and speaking English skills. For grade 6 students, it was found that the learners had higher academic achievement after completing the activity series compared to the pre-study results and the specified criteria. 4) The analysis of student satisfaction with learning results in a series of activities to enhance listening and speaking English skills. For grade 6 students, the student's satisfaction with their listening and speaking English skills were at a high level (mean = 4.32, standard deviation = 0.79). The students were satisfied with 86.4% which was following the hypothesis set. That is, learners must be satisfied with more than 85%.
