CITIZENS AND THEIR ROLE IN CREATING SUSTAINABLE POLITICAL PARTICIPATION

Abstract

This article aims to study the role of citizens in fostering sustainable political participation, emphasizing the importance of engagement at all levels, from local to national. Citizens play a crucial role not only in exercising basic rights such as voting and public expression but also in shaping policies, overseeing government operations, and participating in public activities that drive political change. The article highlights key factors that promote participation, notably education, which enhances knowledge and understanding of political processes, enabling citizens to engage effectively. Additionally, technology and social media are identified as essential tools that facilitate access to information and allow citizens to express their views freely. The article also analyzes obstacles to political participation, such as unequal access to education, limited spaces for public expression, and a lack of cultural support for citizen engagement. Proposed solutions focus on developing curricula related to civic rights and responsibilities, creating platforms for public participation, and promoting diversity of thought within society. The study concludes that continuous and sustainable citizen participation in political processes is a key driver for advancing democracy towards fairness and sustainable development. Building strong citizen networks and providing opportunities for free participation can enhance transparency, foster trust in government, and contribute to the long-term stability and development of society.
