Quality of Life of the Elderly in Bang Mueang Sub-district Municipality, Mueang District, Samut Prakan Province

Abstract

         The objectives of this research are as follows: (1) to assess the quality of life of the elderly in Bang Mueang Sub-district Municipality, (2) to compare personal factors and the quality of life among elderly individuals in Bang Mueang Sub-district Municipality, and (3) to apply the research results as a guideline for improve the quality of life of the elderly in Bang Mueang Sub-district Municipality to achieve a better quality of life. This study was a quantitative research. The study focuses on the elderly population in the Bang Mueang Subdistrict Municipality, Mueang District, Samut Prakan Province. Using Taro Yamane's method, a sample size of 364 participants was determined. Data were collected using a questionnaire with a reliability score of 0.945. The statistics used in this case were descriptive statistics analysis: frequency, percentage, mean, Standard Deviation and including assumption by t-test, F–test One Way Analysis of Variance, and compared tests performed using Scheffe method.

          The results of research found that: (1) The quality of life of the elderly in Bang Mueang Sub-district Municipality was overall perceived as high level ( x̄ = 4.12, SD = 0.393), when considering each aspect averages sorted from highest to lowest were the environmental aspect at the highest, followed by the physical aspect at the high level, the psychological aspect at the high level, and the social relationship aspect at the high level, respectively. (2) The comparative analysis of the differences in personal factors and quality of life of the elderly were found: Elderly individuals of various genders, ages, incomes, and occupations experience no significant difference in their quality of life. However, among elderly individuals with a certain level of education, the quality of life varies significantly. This difference is statistically significant at the .05 level.
