POLICE AND POLITICS: RELATIONSHIP BASED ON EACH OTHER

Abstract

The police are a type of civil servant in a democratic state. The police are an important tool of the state that can use force against citizens and are an essential element of the democratic process. A state cannot be a strong democracy without effectively protecting its citizens' rights to life, liberty, and property. The relationship between the police and Thai politics from the past to the present is inevitable, regardless of any form of government. That is to say, during the regime of the absolute monarchy system, the main task of the police was to protect and were very close to the monarch, while maintaining internal peace was a secondary task. After the change of government in 1932, the People's Party took control and changed the police administration structure to professional police. Thus, one of the distinctive features of the relationship between the police and politics is that of the police; the police are inevitably under the influence of politicians. Thus, it can be seen that the relationship between police and politics can be divided into the following issues: 1) the administrative structure aspect; 2) working performance; and 3) the promotion aspect with the politician’s influence.
