Abstract

Abstract

This research aimed to study and compare the attitude of Thais towards standard Thai accent and foreign workers speaking Thai in Myanmar accent, Lao accent and Cambodia accent according to the variables of the gender and race factors of the speaker, and according to the variables of the gender factors and educational levels of Thai people.

            The results of the overall study revealed that Thais had a more positive attitude towards standard Thai accent spoken by native speakers than Thai speaking voice with foreign accents. The samples had a high level of favorable attitude towards standard Thai accent spoken by native speakers. They have a moderate attitude towards Thai speaking voice with foreign accents; Myanmar, Lao and Cambodia. It also showed that the samples had a moderately favorable attitude towards the foreign accent of the three nationalities in the same level. Considering the characteristics, it can be shown that Thai people have the most positive attitude towards foreign speakers of sincerity and have a less positive attitude in tasteful, creative, wealthy and enthusiastic.
