ROLES AND STATUS OF CHARACTERS AND INDIAN CULTURE IN THE SINEHASARI NOVEL

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the roles and the status of the characters and Indian culture from SINEHASARI novel, which is Pongsakorn's novel.

            The finding indicated that the roles and the status of the characters in society as well as family are obvious in the SINEHASARI novel. In society, it presents the roles and the status of ethnicity and occupation of the characters. In family, it shows the roles and the status of children, husband, wife and also parents. Moreover, all of the characters can effectively perform not only their role but also their status.

            Results indicated that India has a long tradition,some culture has been lost but, some is still well preserved. In SINEHASARI, We have learn a lot of  Indian culture ,for example,dressing in the saree, a Bindi decoration(a colored dot worn on the center of the forehead), Sati or Suttee (a woman who performed the act of immolating herself after her husband’s death.)and Swayamvara (In ancient India, was a practice of choosing a husband, from among a list of suitors, by a girl of marriageable age.) These are unique and fascinating culture and customs which is valuable for novel.
