Abstract

Motivation is now considered to be an important factor in foreign language learning, which has long been the subject of intense debate and empirical research in connection with language learning and foreign language teaching. Motivation is blamed in foreign language learning and teaching literature for many things: It influences the choice to learn a certain foreign language, the learning process, the behavior during and after the lesson, the learning success, the use of appropriate learning strategies or the behavioral performance. The aim of this contribution is to make the topic of motivation more relevant in its relevance to foreign-language acquisition theory and to provide approaches for diagnosing motivation in foreign-language teaching and learning processes in Vietnam.
