The Cultural Respond Approach to Road Safety of Users in Risk Areas, Pathumthani Province

This research aimed at studying the response of road users in risk areas, Pathumthani Province following the government policy in the field of road safety culture. The participants of this research were defined as population who was a road user. According to the criteria of selected participants, the participants were chosen from a researcher’s measurement which included of people regularly being road users, having a length of age between 16-25 years old and steering in educational areas. This study took place into two fields of research approach which were quantitative and qualitative. Owing to this study, quantitative research was employed as a questionnaire in order to survey related information from population who had a length of age between 16-25 years old for 150 persons under the convenience sampling and descriptive statistics methods. In addition, qualitative research was applied as a field study under the structured interview method which defined the qualification of participants as follows: male and female road users with a length of age between 16-25 years old and encountering road accidents. Those of qualified participants were total as 8 persons by purposive sampling method. Following the investigation and analysis of qualitative research, this step adopted data triangulation technique. The finding revealed that the majority of road users had high response in road safety culture and, for those minorities of road users who had low response in road safety culture, its related factors were speed of road steering and wearing a helmet which these responses were primarily influenced by family and society. Moreover, most accidents came from non-compliance with safe behavior. Therefore, the principle of development in safety culture should have been implemented in children and youth at first place but it needed to build an atmosphere so as to create the development in road safety culture with people of all ages. Also there was strict law enforcement and required cooperation from the government by integrating related sectors with road accident prevention and mitigation mission.
