Christoph Hein - Confusion

Abstract

Christoph Hein is one of the best-known contemporary writers in Germany. This article deals with a novel by the author published in 2018. This novel's title is Verwirrnis (Confusion). The focus of this small study is first of all the question of how the text was received in Germany's literary criticism. It is received on the linguistic design of the text. It also examines the extent to which the novel can be read as a chronicle of  German history in recent decades. Finally, it is shown that Hein did not leave the choice of the names of the characters appearing in the novel to chance, on the contrary, he did it very deliberately in order to clarify and deepen the character of the protagonists.
