Abstract

This research aimed to study the historical development of Hua Phai Catholic Community, ways and powers, and the presentation of its cultural capital, by studying from documents and collecting data from informative historical fieldwork. It was found that Hua Phai Catholic Community was founded in the reign of King Rama V by a French missionary who redeemed slaves for Roman Catholic evangelism and allocated land for the former slaves to reside and earn their living. The area now covers 3 districts including Phanat Nikhom and Phanthong in Chonburi, Ban Pho District in Chachoengsao. At present, this area is nationwide famous for fish breeding ground and fish breed sale. The community way of life and its power is composed of agricultural society; obvious cultural landscape; strong community economy; community development conducted by both government sectors and the church; and understanding and harmonious social coexistence of people with different religions. There are different cultural capital aspects of Hua Phai Catholic Community: history, way of life, cultural landscape, tourism resources. and These can be effectively used to develop knowledge and community in terms of creative economy.
