Needs assessment skills for learning development among student teachers using the modified Priority Needs Index (PNI modified)

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) assess the priority needs for research skills for learning development among student teachers, 2) prioritize the needs for research skill for learning development skills, and 3) study development guidelines for enhancing research skills for learning development among student teachers. The sample consisted 207 student teachers at Nakhon Si Thammarat Rajabhat University during 2024 academic year, selected via stratified random sampling. Research instruments included a needs assessment form for research skills for learning development, with reliability coefficient of .917, an in-depth interview guide, and a group discussion form. The data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, modified PNI, and content analysis. The research results showed that: 1. The priority needs for research skills for learning development among student teacher had PNI modified rangin from.29 to.42. 2. The ranking of priority needs ranking by aspects, in descending order, was selecting statistic, data analysis and interpreting data, research methodology, writing conclusions, discussions, and recommendations, literature review, writing preliminary, , and supplementary sections, and problem identification, titling, and introduction with PNI modified of .42, .37, .36, .35, .33, and .29, respectively, and 3. The development guidelines for research skills included offering specialized courses in statistics and data analysis , conducting preparatory workshops, recommending academic resources and advanced search techniques, providing training on artificial intelligence integration for research, establishing standardized research report templates, and implementing a continuous and close supervision and consultation system.
