Incubation to enhance area-based development capacity through the social engineering process at Phetchabun Rajabhat University for improving well-being and quality of life among older persons

Abstract

The research on incubation to enhance area-based development capacity through the social engineering process of student potential Phetchabun Rajabhat University aimed to: develop and enhance student potential to possess the four desirable attributes in accordance with the Royal Educational Philosophy; promote social engineers with competencies as community developers;  support the utilization of community data and social engineering tools for knowledge management, and the development of area-based innovations; and improve the well-being and quality of life of older persons. This research utilized a research and development (R&D) methodology applying a mixed-methods approach. The sample included Phetchabun Rajabhat University students and older persons in the target areas. The tools consisted of a learning behavior assessment form, a quality-of-life questionnaires, and in-depth interviews. The findings revealed that students demonstrated significant development in attitudes, skills, and public consciousness, enabling them to effectively function as social engineers. Older persons reported a high overall level of quality of life across physical, psychological, and social dimensions. Innovations developed using the five social engineering tools were appropriate, low-cost, based on local resources, and scalable. The study confirms that the social engineering process serves as a vital mechanism connecting student development, community participation, and older persons’ well-being towards sustainable area-based development.
