Abstract

This study examined the relationship between financial ratios and the dividend payout ratio of commercial banks listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET). Secondary panel data were collected from 10 commercial banks over a ten-year period from 2016 to 2025, totaling 100 observations. Data analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis using the random effects model. The empirical results revealed that the Debt-to-Equity (D/E) ratio was the only significant factor showing a negative relationship with the dividend payout ratio at the .01 significance level. This suggests that banks with higher leverage tend to reduce dividend payouts to maintain liquidity and meet regulatory capital adequacy requirements. Conversely, profitability ratios (ROA, NPM, and NIM), liquidity ratios (LDR), asset management efficiency ratios (TATO), and asset quality ratios (NPL) did not significantly influence the dividend payout ratio. Furthermore, control variables, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Bank of Thailand's regulatory policies, showed no statistically significant impact on the dividend payout ratio.
