Applying for an Academic Position, Internal Factor, External FactorAbstract
The purpose of this article is to examine two factors influencing lecturers’ applying for an academic position: internal factors, such as lecturers’ attitudes, motivations, and personal development, and external factors being relevant university’s policies, rules, regulations, and processes with respect to academic position applications. The author found that the formers post greater hindrance than the latter due to the lack of mechanisms stimulating the internal factors. Since the external factors remain fixed, they are generally less problematic than the internal factors. In striving for successful course management, and academic research creation and innovation, universities are advised to employ mechanisms capable of promoting both internal and external factors to encourage lecturers to apply for academic positions.
