Abstract

The objective of this research were to study (1) general characteristic of the Red-Whiskered Bulbul of the birdmen in Bangkok and (2) the knowledge for law-abiding the Red-Whiskered Bulbul of the birdmen in Bangkok. This study was conducted by applying 2 research methodologies. For quantitative approach, questionnaires were used to collect data 183. The data was analyzed by using the descriptive statistics. With the qualitative approach, in-depth interview, field notes and structured observation with 13 people. The results indicated that

(1) Most of birdmen had male, an average age of 41-60 years, Bangkok native, high school graduation, employee, income 25,001-35,000 baht per month, recommended by friend, experience to raising bird about 10-15 years, at present there had 6-10 birds, most of birds had not license of government agency but most of birdmen never arrested by the authorities because most of birdmen had middle the knowledge.

(2) Most of birdmen had middle the knowledge, only 5 issues that should be improved to get the right knowledge include, cannot apply for bird license every day, outlander can apply for bird license, the red-whiskered bulbul had not listed in the CITES convention, hunting or attempt for hunting by government officials had exempted by law and birdmen in Bangkok had apply for bird license at wildlife conservation office and birdmen in country had apply for bird license at local conservation area management office.
