Cost and return analysis of Jujube planting : A Case Study of Hanchai Kokfai Gargen, Khok Sa-ad Sub-district, Nongwuaso District, Udon Thani Province

Abstract

This research was a qualitative research. The objectives were to study the process of planting jujube trees, and analyzed costs and returns, and investigating challenges and obstacles in jujube trees cultivation jujube trees: a case study of Mr. Harnchai Kokfai's garden Khok Sa-at Village, Nong Bua Ban sub-district, Nong Wua So district, Udon Thani province. Farmers in this garden have experiences growing jujube trees for 3 years. The tool used to collect data was semi-structured interviews.

          The results of the study showed that the initial investment consisted of Production equipment 51,349 baht per year with a 3-month harvest season from November to January. A total of 120 jujube trees from 1 rai of land can be harvested from the 2nd year onwards, yielding 500 kilograms, 1,000 kilograms and 1,500 kilograms per year, respectively, with a total production cost of 49,240 baht, consisting of jujube trees 14,400 baht, direct labor costs 32,080 baht, production expenses 2,800 baht, and selling and administrative expenses 4,410 baht. The revenue from sales in the 2nd – 4th year is 23,000 baht, 46,000 baht and 69,000 baht per year respectively. Net profit (or loss) for years 1 – 4 was 53,690 baht, net loss 16,290 baht, net profit 6,710 baht and 29,710 baht, gross profit or loss in year 2 to year 4 gross loss 51.65%, gross profit 24.17% and 49.45%, respectively, net profit margin for year 2 to year 4 net loss 70.83%, net profit 14.59% and 49.06%, respectively.
