งานชิ้นนี้ต้องการศึกษาในเรื่องการกำหนดนโยบายต่างประเทศของประเทศฝรั่งเศสโดยใช้กรอบแนวคิด Neoclassical realism เป็นหลักในการวิเคราะห์โดยหยิบยกกรณีของนายพล De Gaulle กับการกำหนดนโยบายต่างประเทศของฝรั่งเศสในช่วงสงครามแอลจีเรีย โดยดูว่ากรณีดังกล่าวมีปัจจัยหรือตัวแสดงทางการเมืองใดที่มีส่วนสำคัญต่อการกำหนดนโยบายต่างประเทศของฝรั่งเศสในช่วงดังกล่าว โดยผลการศึกษาสรุปว่ามี 4 ปัจจัยด้วยกัน ได้แก่ 1) ตัวผู้นำ คือนายพลDe Gaulle 2) รัฐธรรมนูญฉบับปี 1958 3) กลุ่ม FLN และ4) วิกฤตการคลังและงบประมาณของฝรั่งเศส กล่าวโดยสรุปปัจจัยการเมืองภายในมีส่วนสำคัญอย่างมากต่อการกำหนดนโยบายต่างประเทศในเรื่องสงครามแอลจีเรียของ De Gaulle โดยเฉพาะเรื่องโครงสร้างทางการเมืองที่สืบเนื่องจากผลของรัฐธรรมนูญปี 1958 ที่มีส่วนสำคัญทำให้ De Gaulle สามารถดำเนินนโยบายต่อประเด็นเรื่องดังกล่าวตามที่ตนต้องการได้
