Abstract

The research titled “Factors Influencing the Decision to Pursue Graduate Studies in the Faculty of Communication Arts at Bangkok Thonburi University among International Students” aims to explore and analyze the factors affecting international students' decisions to enroll in the graduate programs at the Faculty of Communication Arts, Bangkok Thonburi University. With the growing popularity of studying abroad, students must consider various factors including educational quality, economic conditions, social aspects, and cultural experiences.


Bangkok Thonburi University has gained attention from international students due to its high-quality education, modern teaching programs, and international network connections. Studying in Thailand is perceived as cost-effective, offering memorable cultural experiences. Additionally, university support plays a significant role in the decision-making process of international students. However, international students may face challenges such as language barriers and cultural differences. While most universities offer programs in English, daily life still requires some understanding of Thai. In the field of communication and mass media, communication arts programs in Thailand offer a diverse range of courses including mass communication, public relations, advertising, organizational communication, and digital communication. Thai programs often emphasize practical learning through projects, internships, and real-life communication skills, which is appealing to international students seeking hands-on experience. The communication industry in Thailand is rapidly growing in areas such as digital media, advertising, and public relations, providing students with ample job and internship opportunities. Thailand’s status as a hub for trade and investment in Southeast Asia offers international students beneficial networking and career opportunities in the region.


This study aims to explore and analyze the factors affecting international students' decisions to pursue graduate studies in the Faculty of Communication Arts at Bangkok Thonburi University to develop a deeper understanding and comprehensive strategies for future support and policy development. Additionally, the research findings will assist in planning effective communication and promotional strategies to provide accurate and engaging information to prospective international students interested in studying in Thailand.


The study found that key factors influencing international students' decisions to pursue graduate studies at the Faculty of Communication Arts include: 1) Confidence from alumni and positive, creative learning information, 2) Extracurricular activities, internship opportunities, and career development, 3) Facilities, visa processes, and documentation procedures, 4) Tuition fees and scholarships, 5) Faculty expertise and academic support, and 6) Program quality and credibility.


International students receive information about graduate studies from various sources such as online media (Twitter, Facebook, websites), personal contacts (family, colleagues), printed media (posters, brochures, magazines), and events. The study highlights the importance of clear and reliable information dissemination, appropriate media use, and creating accurate understanding among international students in making decisions about graduate studies.
