Abstract

The purposes of this research were to: 1) to study level of the public participation in crime prevention in Thap Than District, Uthai Thani province; 2) compare level of the public participation in crime prevention in Thap Than District, Uthai Thani province classified by gender, age, educational level, occupation, and monthly income; and 3) presenting guidelines for promoting public participation in crime prevention in Thap Than District, Uthai Thani Province. The research method was quantitative research. The sample group, obtained by stratified random sampling, consisted of 396 People in Thap Than District, Uthai Thani Province. The research instrument was a questionnaire of the Public Participation in crime prevention in Thap Than District, Uthai Thani province with a reliability level at 0.99. Statistical analysis was performed in terms of frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, LSD test and Games-Howell Test.


            The research findings revealed as follows: 1) the level of public participation in crime prevention in Thap Than District, Uthai Thani Province, overall, is at a high level. The area with the highest average value is participation in receiving benefits, followed by participation in evaluation, and the area with the lowest average value is participation in operations; 2) people with different genders, ages, education levels, marital status, occupations, and monthly incomes participated in crime prevention in Thap Than District, Uthai Thani Province, overall, with statistical significance at the 0.05 level; 3) The results of the analysis of public opinions on the approach to promote public participation in crime prevention in Thap Than District, Uthai Thani Province, consist of 23 items, categorized as follows: 7 items of participation in decision-making, such as setting up a community forum to allow the public to participate in decision-making on crime prevention in their own areas; 8 items of participation in operations, such as campaigning for the public to play a role in monitoring risk areas and warning of unusual events in the community; 5 items of participation in receiving benefits, such as giving awards, financial support, or certificates of honor to people or community groups that play an important role in crime prevention; and 3 items of participation in evaluation, such as surveying public opinions using a questionnaire to collect information from the public about their feelings of safety and satisfaction with crime prevention measures in the community, in order to use the information to improve crime prevention operations in the community.
