This research article aims to review post – socialist or post – communist approach to explain a political and economic transitions in both the former socialist and socialist countries. The article also analyzes a political adaptation of the socialist countries like Laos and Vietnam. The qualitative methods are selected to obtain the information through reviewing literature. The research result shows that the approach occurs in the late Cold War when many socialist countries had experienced economic reform and democratization. This led to the first approach called the transitology and consolidology by political scientists who believe in universalistic rule of such economic and political transitions. However, this approach is contentious. Some scholars believed in the diversity after the transformation. After that, the post-socialist approach variously focusses on political, economic, and social changes in both former socialist countries and socialist countries.
