The main objective of this research is to study the characteristics and behavior of online gambling on mobile phones among the elderly, and the related factors that motivate the elderly to gamble online on mobile phones and the various impacts that occur to the elderly who like to gamble online. The research is qualitative research that collects data using ethnographic methods in various groups of elderly people who play online gambling. The research has found important findings: the elderly who gamble online can be divided into two large groups; 1) The group of elderly people who are already fond of gambling 2) The group of elderly people who have never gambled seriously before, but gamble online because they have free time and expect to earn more income. There are four main motivating factors: 1) a pre-existing interest in gambling; 2) the lifestyle of the elderly; 3) reduced income after retirement; and 4) marketing strategies. As for the impacts on the elderly who are fond of online gambling, the elderly assessed themselves as not being severely affected. A small number of the elderly were affected in terms of their mental health and family relationships.
