This research aims to investigate and analyze the roles and significance of Chinese multinational companies in the Thai-Chinese Industrial Area in Rayong Province. The objective is to contribute to the development of the Thai-China relationship through the concept of the “Triangular Diplomacy.” The study seeks to provide recommendations for the management and policy formulation by the Thai government to promote the role of Chinese multinational companies in Thailand. Employing a qualitative research approach, data are collected through in-depth interviews with relevant stakeholders and a review of primary documents and documentary research. Subsequently, the data are subjected to descriptive analysis.
The research findings reveal that crucial factors contributing to the role and significance of Chinese multinational companies in the Thai-Chinese Industrial Area in Rayong Province which these have played a vital role in the development of Thai-China relations. Specifically, the zone's status as the first overseas Chinese industrial estate has been propelled and supported through policies from the Chinese government, both historically (Going Out) and currently (Belt and Road Initiative - BRI). Chinese multinational companies in this context serve as key representatives of the Chinese government in fostering international cooperation, aligning with Thailand's contemporary policies such as Thailand 4.0 and the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). These policies resonate directly with China's BRI, resulting in a direct increase in Chinese multinational companies' investments in Thailand. This dynamic has created interdependence and competition, leading to a broadened and increasingly positive direction in various cooperative aspects between Thailand and China. It serves to promote the strategic partnership between the two countries.
