บทความชิ้นนี้เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของโครงการทางความคิดที่พยายามจะเข้าใจสถานการณ์โลกและการเมืองระหว่างประเทศผ่านมุมมองแบบการตั้งคำถามเชิงวิพากษ์ทางปรัชญาและการคิดคำนึงเกี่ยวกับปัญหา บทความประสงค์ที่จะวิเคราะห์ความรุนแรงโดยรัฐและแผลใจที่เกิดขึ้นเป็นผลลัพธ์ด้วยการเพ่งประเด็นไปยังการใช้เทคโนโลยีอากาศยานไร้คนขับ (โดรน) ในบริบทของสงครามต่อสู้กับผู้ก่อการร้าย แนวทางการวิเคราะห์อาศัยมุมมองเชิงภูมิปัญญาของ ฌาคส์ ลาก็อง นักจิตวิเคราะห์แนววิพากษ์ชาวฝรั่งเศส ความคิดสามความคิดที่สำคัญของลาก็องเพื่อการวิเคราะห์ อันได้แก่ (1) the mirror-stage (2) the master-signifier (3) the sinthome นำไปสู่การทำความเข้าใจแผลใจในอีกมุมมองหนึ่งซึ่งสัมพันธ์อยู่กับการประกอบสร้างอัตตวิสัยของชาวอเมริกันและการเปลี่ยนแปรในตัวคนผู้ซึ่งได้รับความทรมานใจจากการโจมตีของอากาศยานไร้คนขับ
