The process of construction the imagination of Catholics citizenship in Thai society

This research analyzes the process of constructing the imagination of Catholics citizenship in Thai society under the Thainess definition of “being Buddhism is being Thai”. This became a major problem in Thai society as the Catholics were seen as the non-Thai citizens. The research found that in the early stages of the transformation: despite the fact that Catholics were already a legal citizen in Thailand yet were not socially accepted. More importantly, during Chom Phon Pibulsonggram’s presents, has persecuted Christianity severely. However, with the occurrence of the Second Vatican Reformation has boosted the transformation of constructing the Catholics citizenship to become successful and contributed the Catholics to adapt themselves in Thai society. These adjustments occurred through the reducing the sense of alienation (the Western) and adding more “Thainess" to Christianity community in Thailand by the implementing Catholicism–Thainess cultural blending, adapting of both languages in prayers by catholic priests, and establishing virtuous relations between Christianity and Thai monarchy.
