Abstract

This article aims to examine the concept of transnational crime considered as an unconventional threat affecting national and social security throughout the world including the Southeast Asia region which is inevitably moving to ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) in 2016.  The study found that transnational crime has its own characteristics that are different from ordinary crime.  The understanding of transnational crime cannot be based only on the traditional concept of criminology, but need a more comprehensive approach towards the concept of the surrounding fields of political sciences, laws and criminology.  In order to fight transnational crime concretely and effectively, law enforcement agencies of each country should closely work each other by implementing the existing mechanisms in the national, regional and international levels.
