ประวัติศาสตร์และการเมืองของ “พวกขี้แพ้”: การครอบงำ อำนาจ และการต่อต้าน ในทัศนะของเจมส์ ซี สก็อตต์

บทความชิ้นนี้มุ่งสำรวจความคิดทางการเมืองของเจมส์ ซี สก็อตต์ ผ่านงานเขียนสำคัญของเขาห้าชิ้น โดยมีข้อนำเสนอหลักว่า การเมืองของสก็อตต์ คือการเมืองที่ยืนอยู่ข้าง “พวกขี้แพ้” ในโลกรัฐศาสตร์ อันได้แก่ มวลชนชนชั้นล่างที่ไร้การจัดตั้งและคนป่าไร้รัฐ แทนที่จะเห็นว่าเป็น มวลชนที่ถูกครอบงำ ยอมจำนน ล้าหลัง ไร้อารยะ สก็อตต์มองคนเหล่านี้ว่าเป็นผู้กระทำการทางเมือง ต่อรอง ต่อต้าน และไม่ยอมจำนนต่ออำนาจของผู้ปกครองในทุกเมื่อเชื่อวัน ศิลปะในการต่อต้านของ “พวกขี้แพ้” นี้ครอบคลุมตั้งแต่การลอบทำลายทรัพย์สิน ลักเล็กขโมยน้อย ข่าวลือ วัฒนธรรมมุขปาฐะ ไปจนถึงเกษตรกรรมแบบตัดและเผา ในด้านหนึ่ง งานของสก็อตต์อาจถูกจัดได้ว่าเป็นงานประเภทท้องถิ่นนิยม ส่งเสริมวัฒนธรรมย่อยเฉพาะเจาะจงอันหลากหลาย ในอีกด้านหนึ่ง งานของสก็อตทำให้เราทบทวนแนวคิดทางการเมืองของนักทฤษฎีรัฐศาสตร์สำคัญหลายคนอาทิ รุสโซ ชาร์ล ทิลลี่ และสลาวอย ชิเชค อีกทั้งยังสามารถเชื่อมโยงงานของเขากับประเด็นข้อถกเถียงทางรัฐศาสตร์ร่วมสมัยในโลกปัจจุบัน อาทิ การครอบงำทางอุดมการณ์ รัฐ อนาธิปไตย มาร์กซิสม์ ขบวนการเคลื่อนไหว และการปฏิวัติ
