Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Artificial Intelligence Policy

Chulalongkorn University Journal of Social Sciences (CUJSS) recognizes the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in supporting the preparation of academic and scholarly works. However, the use of AI must comply with principles of research and publication ethics. Authors, reviewers, and editors are required to follow the policy set out below.

For Authors

Authors may use AI to assist with brainstorming, outlining, organizing content, drafting, improving and checking language, and translation. Authors must personally review and revise the resulting content and remain fully responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of the entire manuscript.

Prohibited Uses of AI for Authors

Authors must not use AI to:

1. Generate or fabricate data, analyses, research results, interpretations of results, or conclusions.
2. Generate or alter images, tables, or data in a manner that may create a misleading representation.
3. Generate references or citations that do not exist or cannot be independently verified.
4. List AI or an AI tool as an author or co-author of the manuscript.

Declaration of AI Use

If AI has been used in preparing a manuscript, authors must disclose this use under the heading “Declaration of AI Use.”

For Reviewers

Reviewers must not upload or enter the entire manuscript, any part of the manuscript, or any information related to the peer-review process into external AI tools or AI services, as doing so may compromise the confidentiality of the manuscript and the review process.

Reviewers must prepare their evaluations independently and strictly comply with principles of confidentiality and the ethical standards governing peer review.

For Editors

Editors must not upload or enter manuscripts, author information, reviewer information, or information relating to the editorial and review process into external AI tools or AI services where such use may compromise confidentiality.

Decisions to accept or reject manuscripts remain the responsibility of the editors and must not be delegated to AI.

Editors may use AI to support administrative or technical screening tasks, provided that such use does not compromise manuscript confidentiality and does not replace human academic judgment in editorial decision-making. Such use must also be consistent with Chulalongkorn University’s AI-related administrative screening system, “Krarok AI.”

Guidelines for Authors on Declaring the Use of AI

Authors who use artificial intelligence (AI) tools in preparing a manuscript for purposes other than language checking or language improvement alone must disclose such use under the heading “Declaration of AI Use” immediately before the References section.

The declaration must clearly specify:

• The name of the AI tool used.
• The purpose for which the AI tool was used.
• The nature and scope of its use.

Authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of the entire manuscript.

Action in Cases of Non-compliance with the AI Policy

If the Journal subsequently finds that AI has been used in part or throughout a submitted article in a manner prohibited under this policy, the Journal may take action even if the article has already been accepted or published. In such cases, the journal may proceed with the retraction of the article from publication.
